Hazards Identification (HAZID) - Classroom Training

About Course

Hazard Identification Analysis (HAZID) is a tool used early in a project and is a design-enabling tool, acting to help organize the HSE deliverables. It is carried out by multi-disciplinary team (HAZID team) during a set of meetings.

Hazard Identification Analysis (HAZID) is a tool used early in a project and is a design-enabling tool, acting to help organize the HSE deliverables. It is carried out by multi-disciplinary team (HAZID team) during a set of meetings.

The HAZID technique is qualitative and aims to stimulate the imagination of participants to identify potential hazards and define relevant methodological approaches to be followed during the design, anticipant as early as possible main safety and environmental constraints (ENVID).

Objectives

The seminar is designed to allow the attendants to be acquainted on HAZID technique, allowing identification of hazards and relevant design methodological approaches. Participants will have the opportunity to simulate a complete exercise from preparation to facilitating and recording the analysis.

Topic

HAZID

1. Introduction to Risk Management and Assessment

2. Reference HAZID check list

  • ISO 17776:2016 - Guidelines on tools and techniques for hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Company / Engineering internal methodologies (examples)

3. Reference documentation:

  • Project HSE plan
  • Basis of Design / Basic Engineering Design Data / Process design criteria
  • Block Flow Diagrams
  • Process / Utility Flow Diagrams
  • Process Descriptions
  • Plot plans
  • Design Philosophies
  • Codes and Standards
  • Environmental Impact Assessment Studies
  • Preliminary hazard analysis

4. Development steps of the HAZID Process:

  • Recommendations definition and management of relevant follow up
  • HAZID Team (members, roles and responsibilities, depth and breadth of experience)
  • Recording the Study (role of recorder, recording format, simultaneous recording and team consensus, P&ID mark up and sign-off, Close-out report)
  • Software for HAZID

Case study - HAZID exercise:

The exercise will usually be customized on real cases documents and reports.
